The Kingsport Housing and Redevelopment Authority (KHRA) board of commissioners is pleased to announce the selection of Michael Price as the organization’s next Executive Director. Michael will officially begin his tenure in June 2026 following the retirement of longtime Executive Director, Terry Cunningham.

Michael Price

Michael brings extensive experience in community development, affordable housing, grant administration, and public service through his position with the City of Kingsport’s Housing and Community Development Department. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to strengthening neighborhoods, expanding opportunities for residents, and building meaningful partnerships that improve quality of life across the community. Michael’s collaborative experience, strategic vision, and passion for community advancement position him well to lead the organization into its next chapter.

As Executive Director, Michael is committed to building upon KHRA’s strong foundation while fostering a culture centered on teamwork, professional growth, and service excellence for both employees and residents. He believes the future of KHRA is one of opportunity, where employees are encouraged to grow and succeed; residents’ needs are met with compassion and respect; and the organization expands its impact throughout the region.

“KHRA has a long and proud history of serving the Kingsport community, and I am incredibly honored for the opportunity to lead this organization. Affordable housing changes lives, strengthens families, and creates pathways for long-term success. I look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff, residents, and community partners to create new opportunities,” said Michael.

The Board extends its sincere gratitude to retiring Executive Director, Terry Cunningham, for nearly 31 years of outstanding leadership and dedicated service to KHRA and the Greater Kingsport community. Terry’s lasting contributions to affordable housing programs and neighborhood revitalization have positioned KHRA as a trusted leader throughout the region.

Greg Perdue, Board Chair for KHRA, commented that “the Kingsport community has been extremely fortunate to benefit from Terry Cunningham’s leadership, deep knowledge, and passion for affordable housing for more than thirty years. During his tenure, Terry became not only a trusted resource in our region, but across the entire State. We are excited to celebrate all that Terry has achieved in the weeks to come. At the same time, we look forward to the contributions that Michael will make as our new Executive Director, and we could not be more pleased with the energy, enthusiasm, and vision he brings to our staff and residents.”

Over the coming weeks, Michael will begin meeting with staff, residents, community partners, and stakeholders as he transitions into his new role. The Board of Commissioners invites the community to join in welcoming Michael as he begins this exciting new chapter for KHRA and the families it serves.
