After more than thirty years of dedicated service to the Kingsport Housing and Redevelopment Authority (KHRA), Executive Director Terry Cunningham has announced his retirement effective at the end of June 2026. Throughout his distinguished tenure, Terry has been a driving force behind transformative advancements in affordable housing access, neighborhood revitalization, and community partnerships.
Among his most notable achievements has been the revitalization of the Riverview Neighborhood through HUD’s HOPE VI program, a project that significantly strengthened the community and expanded opportunities for residents. More recently, Terry led a large-scale renovation and remodeling effort that modernized multiple apartment complexes in KHRA’s portfolio, converting outdated public housing units into sustainable and improved PBV housing. Under Terry’s leadership, KHRA increased housing voucher availability, enhanced programs addressing homelessness, and cultivated strong collaborations with nonprofits, service providers, and local governments. His vision and commitment have left a lasting impact on KHRA and the diverse communities it serves and will continue to even after his time with the agency concludes.
This transition comes at a pivotal moment, as the Authority embarks on historic development efforts and prepares to usher in the next generation of leadership.
