Supportive Housing (SHP)

The Supportive Housing Program (SHP) assists in providing housing and related supportive services for homeless persons moving to independent living. These programs are also referred to as Special Needs Assistance Programs (SNAP).

The program funds provide stable housing for homeless persons while they increase their skills and income, and gain more control over the decisions that affect their lives. Grants under SHP are awarded through a national competition held annually through the Continuum of Care (CoC) system.

Kingsport Housing & Redevelopment Authority’s SHP program provides long-term housing with supportive services for homeless persons with disabilities. This type of supportive housing enables special needs populations to live as independently as possible in a permanent setting.

KHRA currently operates four (4) SHP grants, providing housing assistance for up to 21 individuals and families in the eight Northeast counties of Tennessee.
