LFLC Gets HEAL Appalachia Grant

May 30, 2013 | By | Resident Initiatives

Congratulations to the Lee Family Learning Center for being named a recipient of a $2,000 grant from HEAL Appalachia.

HEAL (Healthy Eating, Active Living) Appalachia was established in 2008 as a collaborative effort between Mountain States Health Alliance (MSHA) and East Tennessee State University (ETSU) to build momentum in the fight against childhood obesity in Southern Appalachia. The $2,000 grant for Lee Family Learning Center will be used to purchase recreational equipment such as footballs, jump ropes and parachutes to help the children at Lee keep moving through fun exercise activities.

This grant was secured through the Kingsport Initiative for Training & Employment, Inc. (K.I.T.E., Inc.), with the help of Sherrie Whisnant at Lee Family Learning Center. Great work!
